Epstein Students Decorate The Governor's Mansion For Hanukkah
Last year, students from The Epstein School's choir sang songs from their newly released Hanukkah CD as part of the holiday festivities taking place at the Governor's Mansion, home of Georgia State
Governor Sonny Perdue. This year, an invitation was extended to Elementary School Principal, Amalia Bilek to have Epstein students decorate an entire room at the Mansion in true "Epstein-style" Hanukkah decor. Epstein parent and artist Alane Levy and art teacher Sagit Shaked were approached with the request and eagerly accepted. Along with a well-trained army of artistic Epstein elementary students, the project began.
Decorations included three large canvases, created with paints and colorful fused glass squares, that upon illumination shimmer like stained glass. Beautiful Menorahs and Stars of David in peaceful blue and glistening silver adorn large works of wall-mounted art. Hanukkah-themed holiday banners drape across the fireplace mantel. A highlight of the art are hopeful words for peace in both Hebrew and English. There were also doves, a symbol of peace, representing a core value and a hallmark of our Epstein's peaceful and caring community, Kehillat Shalom. After the holidays, the student's artistic works will be part of the silent auction offerings at the 2008 Epstein Celebration on March 30, 2008.
It was a huge honor for The Epstein School to have been selected to decorate the ballroom and as a result, students involved in the project were photographed and featured in the Sunday December 16, 2007 edition of the Atlanta Journal- Constitution on page ZH9 in the Northside Section, as well as the December 12-16 edition of The Atlanta Jewish Times. Congratulations to all of the students involved!
